Alaska Northstar Federal is seeking to add a DevOps Expert II to our high-powered team for a long-term, fully remote opportunity supporting a DoD program with the US Air Force.  

An active Secret Clearance and 8570 IAT Level II Certification are required for this position. 


The DevOps Expert II will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Builds, scripts, and tests Compliance as Code to apply security configuration(s) to cloud resources upon (or after) deployment.  
  • Writes CaC and IaC for both cloud native service deployment and for hosted application deployment to cloud services (AWS Elastic Beanstalk, AWS Lambda, Azure App Services).  
  • Provides cloud service expertise to cloud-deployed applications, assisting application developers with integrating application-specific components into available cloud services.  
  • Secures cloud service and application resources according to industry standards and cloud provider best practices and collects and provides evidence for security baseline adherence.  
  • Prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of IaC when necessary, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of IaC intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.  
  • Works within Agile SDLC framework to include performing work activity within two- to three-week sprints, participating in daily scrums, and utilizing sprint tracking software to track and communicate individual work activity to stakeholders.
Requirements

Candidate must be US Citizen

Candidate must have an active DoD Secret Clearance at minimum

Candidate must have active CompTIA Security+ CE or other applicable active 8570 IAT Level II Certification

Candidate must have 10+ years experience with the following:

  • Knowledge of secure enclave architecture and deployment.   
  • Proficiency in infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, AWS CloudFormation).   
  • Managing and facilitating system governance processes, including ticket queue management, governance request prioritization, and SLA management. 
  • Scoping, work breakdown, and cost estimation for new system capabilities, onboarding and migration efforts. 
  • Understanding of KPIs and metrics for infrastructure (e.g., CPU usage, network throughput) and security (e.g., access logs, intrusion detection). 
  • Implementing security monitoring techniques, including anomaly detection and threat analysis. 
  • Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe). 
  • Configuring Jira workflows, boards, and issue tracking for Agile SDLC processes. 
  • Familiarity with DevOps pipelines and practices (CI/CD) to enhance the continuous delivery of code and system improvements. 
  • Strong communication skills for engaging with stakeholders, including senior leadership, technical teams, and governance bodies. 
  • Ability to document and communicate technical and governance outcomes clearly and concisely. 
  • Team collaboration skills to work across departments and with Capability Delivery Teams (CDTs).
