Starting hourly rate: $25/hr., depending on experience

Position: Heavy Equipment Grade Operator

Job Description:

The Heavy Equipment Grade Operator will be responsible for operating heavy equipment to support railroad track construction projects, ensuring that work is performed safely and efficiently.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • 2–4 years of experience with heavy equipment operation.

  • Previous experience with rail construction equipment is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to operate a backhoe, front-end loader, and other heavy equipment.

  • Willingness to travel out of town to job sites for extended periods.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.

  • Excellent communication skills in verbal, non-verbal, and written forms; strong active listening skills.

  • Ability to work well as part of a team, contributing to a positive and efficient work environment.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of laser and machine control is a plus, as well as experience in blueprint reading.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Ability to write clear and concise correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers, clients, and coworkers.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed but simple written or oral instructions.

  • Ability to address typical problems encountered in track construction.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • Certification required if operating on track controlled by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

  • CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is a plus.
