The US Federal Governments Markets Division is chartered with being the premier, compliant supplier of world-class communications solutions to the U.S. Federal Government by providing the highest quality products, systems and services. The USFGMD will achieve this with a professional, well-trained, diverse work force creating a positive and profitable customer relationship resulting in Total Customer Satisfaction and growth of our business. The Federal Systems Technology department of the USFGMD is responsible for service supporting a charter of implementing and integrating complex systems sold worldwide to the US Federal Government. As a USFGMD Systems Technologist, you will be exposed to a wide variety of communications requirements in both the Presale and Post Sale phases of a project. These applications span the entire breadth of the US Federal Government throughout the world.
Job Description
- The Air Force System Technologist role will be responsible for the day to day activities of multiple remote RF sites and public safety dispatch centers for a multi-zone DSR system(s).
- That includes but is not limited to preventive maintenance inspections, routine system checks, alarm monitoring, case management, system backups, patching support, engineering support, inter-zone support, DC (domain controller) maintenance, RF site troubleshooting, network troubleshooting, dispatch site troubleshooting, documentation, moving/lifting heavy equipment >50lbs. and system wide team collaboration.
- The Air Force System Technologist will work closely with other field FSTs, Information Assurance, Engineering, and the Air Force System Upgrade team to support patching, password rotation, system outages, system upgrades, and Engineering Change Requests as necessary.
Unique combinations of both multi-site RF communications systems and/or computer/networking skills are preferred.
Provide technical support on specialized telecommunications systems and public safety product applications for the Air Force Global Sustainment Program.
Performs specific system configuration, programming, optimization, testing, and documentation tasks.
Provide technical support of specialized systems and product applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software-driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure, and performance optimization of RF and Broadband architecture including, but not limited to, legacy analog, advanced digital P25, and data infrastructure.
Maintain, optimize, test, support and document complex mission critical communications systems.
Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with a focus on trend analysis and documentation of results.
Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issues.
Assist the other team FSTs in system troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience working in IT production environments.
- Demonstrated ability to balance multiple concurrent responsibilities of varying priorities and shift focus from one to another with minimal loss of productivity or work quality.
- Applicant must be proficient with Microsoft Office products and G-Suite applications.
- Provide on-site and remote troubleshooting on the Air Force system.
Preferred Candidate Experience:
Very strong knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide-area networks (WAN)
Proficient in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, and bridges.
Experience with R.F. interfaces and systems such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks.
Knowledge in standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.
Strong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as, Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Customer Service teams.
Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems, and networking equipment
- Excellent communications skills and always present a professional image.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate high-level systems experience with the following equipment:
Motorola Base Stations (GTR series, Desktop, etc.)
Dispatch Consoles (MCC7500, MCC7500E)
T1 Circuits and MPLS Circuits
Computer IP Networks and Configuration
Experience working with RF infrastructure technologies to include Motorola SmartZone, SmartNet, console systems, ASTRO conventional, trunked equipment, and simulcast systems
Travel/Location:
- The Air Force System Technologist must be capable of providing onsite support as needed at one of the many RF sites in the region.
- This position will be include a high level of travel throughout the United States.
- The Air Force System Technologist can live anywhere in the United States within a commutable distance to a major airport. Candidates located near San Antonio, TX are highly preferred.
Extensive work travel is required with up to 85% travel
Willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules.
Must be willing and able to obtain DoD Secret-level clearance as required.
Required to complete standard form SF86 questionnaire for national security positions.
Candidate Requirements:
Ideally the individual should have or be pursuing at least one network certification: Network+, CompTIA, Security+
Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract.
Must possess a current and valid driver’s license, no traffic violations, and have a clean driving record.
- Must possess a current Comp TIA Security+ certification or obtain the certification within 6 months of initial employment date.
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Target Base Salary Range: $68,200 - $109,100 USD
Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
Basic Requirements
- 3+ years experience in one of the following: LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, Information Technology, IT Systems, Military, Motorola products, Networking or Networking equipment.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract.
