About the team

Zillow teams across engineering, product, marketing and analytics are building products to help customers unlock their next life chapter. We apply many AI models - such as the Zestimate for price predictions or recommenders for personalizing content - with a variety of impact on our customers. In addition, many new ML/NLP models are being considered for solving our newest business priorities. The Ethical AI team's mission is to identify, measure, understand and help alleviate any disparate impact caused by our AI models.

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to innovate for our customers and business, evolving key systems like content creation, search and ranking. We seek dedicated students interested in pushing the state-of-the-art in high-impact research areas such as NLP, LLMs, Conversational AI, Fair Housing Alignment and Ranking.

Our team has an open attitude towards research, and we encourage publications and continuing collaborations. This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $104,000.00 - $166,000.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

Who you are

• Is a PhD graduate student working towards a degree in computer science, NLP, machine learning, fairness, or another applicable field.

• Has good publication record or is highly motivated towards publishing at top-tier scientific conferences (such as ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, COLING, ICML, FAccT)

• Strong understanding of ML and NLP fundamentals

• Experience with common deep learning frameworks

• Experience in curating large scale datasets

• Experience with training/fine-tuning BERT, BART, T5, GPT, other LLMs for NLP tasks

• Experience with LLMs including new modeling techniques, prompt engineering, retrieval augmented generation

• Experience with fairness and building trustworthy embeddings, models are a plus
