Statement of the job
The University of Maine at Fort Kent is seeking a Remote Admissions Counselor/Recruiter who must be based in Central or Southern Maine. This position is responsible for recruiting and evaluating students within an assigned recruitment territory, promoting the University’s academic programs, reviewing applications, and making admission decisions. The primary responsibilities include engaging with students from high schools and technical high schools through virtual and in-person presentations, personal visits, phone, text messaging, and email communications. Additional responsibilities include managing recruitment data, running reports under the direction of the Director of Admissions, and participating in online and occasional in-person recruitment events on campus. While this role is fully remote, the Counselor/Recruiter will be expected to travel within Maine and out-of-state for recruitment events as needed, including events on the UMFK campus determined by the Admissions Director. The position will collaborate closely with the Admissions team, faculty, enrollment-related offices, and Athletic Staff. Additionally, maintaining strong relationships with school counselors and community partners in the designated recruitment territories is essential.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is $43,951 plus a 10% employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Key Responsibilities Include (not limited to)
- Recruit and evaluate prospective students by effectively managing assigned territories,
scheduling and performing recruitment presentations at schools, college fairs, and other
relevant locations. Conduct informational meetings and interviews with prospective
students. - Read applications, evaluate candidates, and make admission decisions based on
established guidelines and criteria. - Provide educational counseling and advising to prospective traditional and non-
traditional students and their families. - Assess and track prospective students to evaluate their likelihood of enrollment and
effectively guide them through the application process from inquiry to enrollment. - Manage administrative tasks, including developing and maintaining a recruitment travel
schedule, entering contacts (inquiries and prospective students) into electronic databases,
conferring with admissions staff, and restocking recruitment materials. - Maintain mandatory attendance in the weekly office meetings and maintain hours to
function as an active, informed member of the UMFK staff. - Coordinate regular contact between prospective students and appropriate faculty
members or administrators. - Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong planning, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively represent the
University of Maine at Fort Kent. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a remote setting.
- High level of initiative, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and
manage multiple projects and deadlines. - An outgoing, positive, and professional demeanor, with the ability to connect, motivate,
and inspire prospective students. - Strong attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information with tact, diplomacy,
and discretion. - Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and relational databases.
- Knowledge of the admissions process and experience evaluating applications preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Must be based out of South-Central or Southern Maine.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid, unrestricted state driver's license and ability to travel as needed (including
occasional international travel).
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid passport (for occasional international travel).
- Experience in admissions, enrollment management, sales, or marketing.
- Experience reading applications and making admissions decisions.
- Experience working remotely and managing tasks independently.
- Experience using a CRM system for managing recruitment and enrollment processes.
- Knowledge of the University of Maine System and its academic offerings.
- Proficiency in a foreign language (other than English).
Position Requirements
- Extensive overnight travel (approximately 50% of the time), frequently requiring
extended time away from home. - Ability to drive for extended periods and handle recruitment materials, including loading,
unloading, transporting, and assembling display materials.
