What’s in Store
Davies Life & Health is on the lookout for an Actuarial Trainee who will be responsible for calculating, reporting, and analyzing financial data for disability insurance lines of business. You will report findings to internal management, client companies, reinsurers, and regulatory authorities. The position also entails assisting in the preparation of experience studies that are used to set and monitor valuation assumptions. You must be available to work a hybrid schedule at our Syracuse, New York office.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports used to monitor performance and communicate results to management, client companies and regulatory authorities
- Perform analysis that provides information regarding the underlying causes of financial results
- Perform studies to measure claim incidence, claim termination, and policy persistency experience
- Calculate reserves to ensure the proper provision for client companies’ liabilities
- Provide prompt and accurate financial information to Claim and Legal departments to assist with the administration and settlement of disability claims
- Develop and maintain effective relationships and communication with the team, co-workers, clients and vendors
- Participate in special projects as requested and perform other related job functions as required

This is a full-time, hybrid position located in Syracuse, New York.
Your Expertise, Skills, and Abilities
- A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Statistics or related field
- Proficient in math and English
- Successful completion of one exam sponsored by the Society of Actuaries or a minimum of two years’ experience in an Actuarial position
- Will participate in Actuarial student program
- Experience in Financial Reporting or equivalent studies preferred
- Experience with GGY AXIS, actuarial software, computer programming and/or Microsoft Office preferred
- Proactive, independent, and takes initiative with consistent follow through
- Excellent time management skills with capability of working with and meeting deadlines
- Exceptional capability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Capable of working collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision
