Position Summary
• Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring accounting systems. Manages responsibility for Accountant II and Analyst staff development, as well as the successful delivery of financial statements.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

• Master’s degree preferred

Licenses and Certification

• Certified Public Accountant preferred

• HFMA CSAF certification preferred

Experience and Skills

• Technical Experience:  5 years of Accounting experience; Healthcare Accounting experience preferred

• Management Experience:  3 years

• Demonstrated competencies in leadership, collaboration, developing others, process improvement and change management

• Thorough knowledge of Accounting and current industry trends

• Demonstrated strength with Excel advanced formulas and macros

• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels in the organization.

• Strong customer centric perspective.

• Strong analytical skills and data reporting capability, as evidenced by the proven ability to interpret business needs and design and implement process improvement plans leveraging innovative solutions (e.g. designing an automated solution to a manual process) within the context of financial management systems and processes.

• Excellent judgment and discretion required in handling highly sensitive, privileged, confidential and/or non-public information in an appropriate manner.

• Prior experience leading and/or working on multiple projects while simultaneously managing competing priorities.

• Proven ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships and influence others within and outside of direct reporting lines.

Role Specific Responsibilities

• Ensures accurate and timely financial statements and reports are prepared and distributed to management staff.

• Ensures all required tax and other items are filed correctly and timely with the IRS, State government and other governmental agencies.

• Identifies income statement account variances and determines operational explanation or make appropriate corrections.

• Supports the Budget Coordinator and management staff in preparing and monitoring the annual budget.

• Develops Accounting applications to meet specific business needs, including but not limited to, Workday.

• Collaborates with management, auditors, and others to answer questions and articulate variances regarding all aspects of the Accounting Department.

• Provides leadership within the Accounting Department in developing, implementing, and maintaining the operational and procedural aspects of the department.

• Maintains accurate, easy to follow, electronic procedures for each Accountant responsibility.

• Reviews balance sheet account reconciliations and validates the relationships which exist with all accounts, including verifications of appropriate documentation and approvals.

• Reviews journal entries and verifies appropriate documentation and approvals.

• Serve as liaison for Accountants, resolving issues that arise, elevating to Director as needed.

• Provides analysis of AR and contractual accounts including balance sheet and income statement reserves, and validates relationships.
