Job Summary:

The Corporation Commission is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Accountant 2 to join our Administrative Services team. This position is responsible for managing accounting functions, including financial reporting, reconciliations, and supporting the overall fiscal operations of the Commission. The ideal candidate will have experience in accounting, with a preference for those holding an accounting certification or specialized training in government accounting. This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Manage the complete payroll process, including processing payroll, verifying data, and ensuring timely and accurate employee payments. Ensure compliance with federal and state payroll regulations, such as tax withholding, benefits, and deductions. Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly. Serve as the financial point of contact for Line Siting activities, creating Chart of Account elements, tracking revenue and expenditures, invoicing applicants, and reviewing travel documents for processing. Perform initial reviews of all agency travel claims and enter approved claims into the payroll system.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

• In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including principles, concepts, practices, methods, and techniques specific to government accounting, internal control structures, and fiscal management.
• Extensive understanding of automated financial systems, including relevant methods and techniques used in modern financial management.
• Thorough familiarity with reference materials such as federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes, applicable agency manuals, and organizational policies and procedures.
• Proficient in financial research methodologies to support data-driven decision-making.
• Strong grasp of payroll accounting principles and practices, ensuring accurate and compliant financial processing.
• Advanced analytical skills in interpreting, analyzing, and communicating complex financial data, including working with large datasets.
• Self-motivated and proactive, demonstrating sound judgment and adaptability in decision-making and problem-solving
• Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations that govern the work system, ensuring compliance and proper fiscal management.
• Skilled in analyzing and evaluating programmatic and fiscal data, offering insights to support decision-making.
• Capable of representing the Arizona Corporation Commission positively in high-volume public contact situations, maintaining professionalism and clarity.
• Able to multi-task and resolve complex problems, prioritizing competing demands effectively.
• Demonstrates strategic thinking and strong organizational skills, with a focus on efficiency and optimal resource allocation.
• Effective time management skills, ensuring deadlines are met consistently without compromising quality.
• Proficient in identifying and solving complex problems, applying critical thinking to achieve practical solutions.

Selective Preference(s):

Preference will be given to applicants who possess an accounting certification or have specialized training in government accounting.
