Purpose of the Position:

The Academic Services Tutor position is to provide personalized academic support to identified adult learners, enhancing their basic skills in reading, writing, math, and study skills. This role leads live tutoring sessions, creates individualized learning plans, and promotes student engagement to ensure academic success. The tutor will also perform administrative tasks to track student progress and collaborate with faculty to align tutoring efforts with the institution's educational goals.in the organization. 

What You’ll Do:

  1. Develop and Update Learning Materials: Create, maintain, and update basic skills content in reading, writing, math and study skills to support adult learners.
  2. Lead Live Tutoring Sessions: Conduct live sessions with students with individual or groups of students, guiding them through the content and ensuring they understand the material.
  3. Create Learning Plans: Develop individualized learning plans for students based on their needs and progress, ensuring they have a clear path to success.
  4. Promote Student Engagement: Foster an engaging and interactive learning environment to encourage student participation and motivation.
  5. Monitor Student Progress: Track and update student progress in gradebooks and session logs, ensuring accurate records of completion and performance.
  6. Provide Adult Basic Education: Offer instruction in basic learning skills for adults, helping them build a strong foundation for further education.
  7. Administrative Duties: Perform administrative tasks such as updating gradebooks, scheduling sessions, and maintaining accurate records of student interactions.
  8. Support Student Success: Assist students in overcoming learning challenges and provide additional resources or support as needed.
  9. Collaborate with Faculty: Work closely with other faculty members to align tutoring sessions with the overall curriculum and institutional goals.
  10. Continuous Improvement: Evaluate and improve tutoring methods and materials to enhance the effectiveness of the academic support provided.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in reading, math, English, education, training, or a related field. Two or more years’ experience leading courses or training sessions with adult learners.
  • Familiarity with lesson planning, understanding of characteristics/needs of non-traditional adult learners, proficiency presenting and leading courses/sessions online, strong work ethic with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • Ability to support a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Computer literacy/basic computer skills to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in education or an academic content area.
  • Strong or advanced proficiency in any of the above required skills/experience.
  • Certifications, Licenses.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams.

Compliance: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable state laws and rules, federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations and internal policies and procedures.  
  • Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department. 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • This is a full-time remote position.
  • Home office set up, quiet place to work, and ability to hard wire into high-speed internet connection.
  • May require setup of computer equipment; accommodation consideration available upon request.
  • Flexibility to work a regular schedule of evenings and weekends as needed.

Anticipated starting salary is based on experience and qualifications.

Compensation Range$53,600—$53,600 USD
