The Academic Programs team at JHU Carey Business School is currently seeking an Academic Advisor. Academic advisors work to provide exemplary service to students, offering support and direction, as they navigate their experience at Carey Business School. Through academic planning and resource connection, academic advisors aim to facilitate student success, retention, and completion, with the ultimate goal of creating self-directed business leaders. This position utilizes a hybrid work schedule, with at least three days/week at the Harbor East campus in Baltimore, and up to two days/week working remotely. This position also requires the ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to other campuses as necessary.
This academic advisor position will primarily support our online Flex MBA students, but may also support students from other programs, including MS Programs. This role will directly interact with the Associate Director for Flex MBA Advising, the Sr. Associate Director for Flex MBA Programs & Advising, Academic Program Directors and other faculty leads, as well as other advisors on the Student Experience Team; staff in other Carey Business School units, particularly the Office of Records & Registration and Student Affairs; and current students to provide counsel regarding academic planning, curriculum requirements, personal goals, specialization or elective course selection, and connection to student resources.

The Flexible MBA program at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School provides world-class, graduate-level business education to working professionals in a flexible, primarily online format. Approximately 1,500 students are currently pursuing their MBA in the stand-alone Flex program or in one of seven Flex-aligned dual MBA programs.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Academic Advising - Direct Work with Students
- Help students navigate their academic experience by assisting with proactive academic planning, creative problem solving, and connection to student resources.
- Conduct individual and group advising sessions via Zoom, via phone, or in-person meetings.
- Document student meetings and notes in student information database.
- Help guide students to put together their own academic plan, taking into account their goals and tuition/financial aid needs.
- Advise students on registration, course selection, academic programs, and elective selection.
- Provide early interventions identifying and communicating with “at-risk” students identified by faculty or other student-facing departments.
- With the purpose of facilitating student success and retention, track student progress by running reports, analyzing student data, and communicating with students regarding registration, grades, and graduation.
