The Academic Advising team within the Chaiken Center for Student Success is seeking an Academic Adviser who will play an integral role in the matriculation and retention of undergraduate degree students and military learners studying online through Penn State World Campus in all fifty states and around the world. The World Campus advising team is committed to providing a lifelong connection for students to The Pennsylvania State University. As a student-centered support system, the advising team guides students toward developing sound educational plans while also being advocates for students and supporting their academic needs. Through these efforts, World Campus advisers seek to empower students to be self-directed in their educational pursuits, take responsibility for their own education, and promote active and lifelong learning. In addition to this advocacy, academic advisers complete undergraduate degree audits and assist with course selection; contribute to innovative committees that impact student success; proactively communicate with students via e-mail, telephone, and virtually, i.e. Zoom; and assist with strategic planning.

Education and Experience Requirments:

  • A Master’s degree or higher (with preferred study in adult education, counselor education, or higher education) and three years of related experience OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Military experience preferred

  • Competencies critical to success are:

    • demonstrated passion for academic advising of online military students

    • ability to build strong partnerships with students who you may never meet in person

    • has student support instincts

    • is committed to team and accountability for the whole

    • encourages a sense of belonging for all

    • data-driven decision making

    • follow-through and attention to detail

    • genuine comfort working in a large, rapidly changing organization

    • ability to manage a work week that may exceed 40 hours during peak times

    • excellent verbal and written communication skills

We seek candidates who can demonstrate experience and ability to advance Outreach’s diversity initiative. Typical hours of work will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, Eastern Standard Time with requirements to work evenings for special events. This position is fully remote.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$46,400.00 - $67,300.00

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
