3D Generalist (Junior to Intermediate)

ngx is looking for a talented Junior to Intermediate 3D Generalist to join our Animation Team! Some in-person presence at our Vancouver, BC studio is a plus, remote candidates will also be considered. If you're passionate about crafting impactful visual experiences and meet the qualifications outlined below, we want to hear from you. This is a full-time, 6 month contract position, starting as soon as possible.

The Role

You'll work closely with the Head of Animation and Animation Leads to create engaging 3D assets for diverse storytelling environments. This role involves hands-on work across all production stages with a focus on modeling, plus asset management, rendering, and VR setup. Ideal candidates will be self-driven problem-solvers, skilled in tools like Maya, Adobe Suite, and Unreal Engine 5. You'll be joining a collaborative team dedicated to producing meaningful cultural experiences and will play a key role in our creative studio.

You have an excellent knowledge of 3D animation techniques, principles, and pipelines, and are open to learning new tools as required. You are comfortable working independently, as you ask the questions you need to ensure you understand the task, and then execute. You solve problems and work through challenges and ambiguity. You also recognize when it’s time to ask for guidance, clarification, or support.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • 3D/2D asset management and organization

  • Asset conversion and export

  • Intermediate 3D modeling and texturing capabilities

  • Render set up and render wrangling to assist with delivery outputs

  • Setup and design for VR and digital twin experiences, both for experience validation and client communication

  • Basic footage editing in Adobe Premiere and After Effects

  • Contribute to project documentation including discovery reports, creative briefs, and planning documents

  • Work closely with project teams to keep workflows running smoothly

Desired Experience and Skills

  • A portfolio that reflects your skills, range, and experience level

  • Demonstrated experience through all phases of the 3D production pipeline

  • Fluency with Maya, Unreal Engine, and Adobe Suite 

  • Intermediate knowledge of 3D modeling/texturing of assets

  • Knowledge of FBX, Alembic, or USD workflow in Maya

  • Experience with 3D asset clean up and conversion from architectural software to Maya/Unreal

  • Self-starter, able to solve problems and find solutions independent of supervisor input 

  • Highly organized and agile, team-oriented, solution-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple workflows and prioritize deliverables

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Commitment to delivering excellence and meeting high standards for quality, with an eye for detail and polish

  • Flexible and willing to learn and adapt

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Cinema 4D, Houdini, Blender, and/or Unity

  • 2D animation skills

  • Related degree or certifications

  • Interest in creative technology

  • Demonstrated engagement with arts, culture, education, history, or science
