2025 Tidymodels Internship

We are pleased to announce that there is a US-based internship position with the tidymodels team in 2025. Everyone is welcome to apply: you do not need to be a full-time student to be eligible for an internship.

This is a paid internship for 12 weeks, starting in May 2025 (or later, depending on your schedule). The compensation rate for these positions is $25/hr, assuming 40 hours each week; applicants must be residents of, and able to accept employment in, the United States. Since Posit is a geographically distributed team, you can be based anywhere in the country.

The goal of the 2025 Posit internship is to develop a suite of supervised feature selection routines within the tidymodels framework, which was the highest-ranked request in our 2022 user survey. Work focuses in two areas. The recipes package will be used, and example tasks are to create, document, and validate recipe steps. Second, standalone functions (such as one for recursive feature elimination) will be developed.  

You will need to have some experience writing code, and using Git and GitHub. An existing valid GitHub account is required to apply. To demonstrate these skills, your application needs to include a link to a package, Shiny app, data analysis repository, or other software or educational materials. It’s OK if you create something specifically for this application: we just need to know that you’re already familiar with the mechanics of collaborative software development.

Preferred candidates will have knowledge of the tidymodels framework (at least from a user’s point of view) as well as some background in machine learning and/or feature selection.
