Research and Advisory Team Managers play a pivotal role in the Research and Advisory business. They help grow Gartner’s business by shaping a climate that allows Experts to grow and thrive in their careers. They execute Gartner’s business strategy through directing the work of a team of Experts. They assure the creation of quality deliverables that help us to win new clients and improve client retention. They guide Experts in their client interactions, research ideation and content creation, and presentations.
Gartner is recruiting for a Vice President, Team Manager with proven experience in the Consumer Goods Industry (with some knowledge of Retail) or in the Retail Industry (with some knowledge of Consumer Goods), including the technologies leveraged in these industries. You will be a key leader, alongside two others within Gartner’s Manufacturing, Transportation, Retail and Consumer Goods Practice. The holder of this role will report to the Practice Vice President. You must be able to demonstrate your ability to manage people as well have knowledge of the key trends, business and technology requirements and technologies integral to these industries. You will be responsible for leading a global team of analyst Experts, who will be focused on creating research content for consumption by both Chief Information Officers primarily in large Tier 1 Consumer Goods and Retail businesses as well as Product Leaders in technology and service providers operating in these industries’ markets.
This team is well positioned to demonstrate Gartner’s ability to help our clients in these roles to deliver exceptional value to their businesses. We do this through creating high value research insights on how to leverage technology to deliver competitively differentiating business outcomes in core industry processes. For example, in:
Consumer Goods: Product Life Cycle Management, Revenue Growth Management, Trade Promotion Management, Retail Shelf Execution and Monitoring
Retail: Pricing and Promotion Optimization, Assortment Management, In-Store Operations Execution, In-Store Workforce Management.

As a people manager, you will lead a team of analyst Experts focused on Consumer Goods and Retail research, supervising them to fulfill research content plans as well as deliver high quality, timely client facing interactions including inquiries and presentations.

The team’s Experts to oversee their workload within and across topic area and ensure that balanced workloads meet client expectations to fulfil the growth objectives of the team, of the Industries Group, contributing to overall growth in our Research and Advisory business.
The team’s content leads (known as the Key Initiative Leaders) to ensure creation and delivery of ‘must have’ research content of high quality including accurate written advice and client inquiry on evaluations of technology products and services providers. This will include gaining and maintaining an understanding of current research coverage gaps and opportunities
The Practice’s HR partners when recruiting, hiring, and developing new hires into productive, high value contributors to clients and Gartner’s business.
Our Sales, Services, Product, and Marketing partners to support client outreach, client retention and growth, NCVI (Net Contract Value Increase), new business generation, and to position our valuable research insights in line with market expectations as the leading global research company. Supporting relevant Gartner Conferences and Events is a key requirement in this regard.
The ideal candidate will have:
5 plus years’ technology experience in the Consumer Goods or Retail Industries, in any of the sub-sectors of these industries
Ability to work collaboratively across multiple stakeholders with proven ability to build consensus with internal partners and clients
Proven ability to attract, lead, motivate and inspire a team
Leadership, planning, motivation and coaching acumen
Credibility to represent Gartner research effectively at a senior level
High level of influence, negotiation, and facilitation skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience in building a culture of inclusion, support, and progression for all associates.
Practical, intuitive problem solving
Demonstrated ability to translate business performance goals into actionable workflows to meet and exceed expected business outcomes.
Ability to successfully lead manage projects / initiatives is desirable, but not required
Previous management experience, while noteworthy, is not a pre-requisite
Bachelor's degree: Masters preferred

Gartner believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is 158,000 USD - 221,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan.
