Structural Bridge Engineer (Hybrid Remote)

Salary: $40-50/hr, full time with benefits. This position allows for 2 days per week remote / work from home. We are seeking a skilled and experienced Structural Engineer with specialized expertise in bridge design and inspection. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural engineering principles, with a focus on designing and assessing the integrity of bridges and other transportation infrastructure. This role requires a detail-oriented individual capable of managing bridge projects from conception through construction, as well as conducting thorough inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design and analysis of bridge projects, including new construction, rehabilitation, and retrofitting, using state-of-the-art engineering software and tools.
  • Perform structural calculations, simulations, and finite element analyses to determine load capacities, stress distributions, and deflections of bridge components.
  • Prepare detailed engineering plans, specifications, and construction documents in accordance with industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil engineers, architects, and transportation planners to integrate structural requirements into overall project designs.
  • Conduct site visits, field surveys, and geotechnical investigations to gather necessary data for project planning and design.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources effectively to meet project milestones and deliverables.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and permitting authorities to obtain necessary approvals and permits for bridge projects.
  • Perform structural inspections and condition assessments of existing bridges to evaluate their safety, integrity, and compliance with maintenance standards.
  • Prepare inspection reports, structural evaluations, and recommendations for repair or rehabilitation based on findings from field assessments.
  • Stay current with industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes related to bridge engineering, materials, and construction techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Structural Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on bridge design and inspection.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, or similar programs.
  • Strong understanding of AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) bridge design specifications and codes.
  • Experience with bridge design software such as LARSA, CSiBridge, or MIDAS Civil.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing bridge projects from concept through construction phase.
