Software Engineer 2 - Remote

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Software Engineer in the R&D Platform team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining a suite of DNA sequencing assays for clinical diagnostics serving over 1 million patients per year. You will collaborate closely with bioinformaticians, molecular biologists, automation engineers, and software engineers to understand their needs and develop software solutions that enhance our capabilities and efficiency.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and implement tools for data processing, analysis, and visualization in genomics research.
• Design, develop, and maintain applications and services for real-time data capture, publishing, and analytics, serving various groups across the organization.
• Continuously enhance the performance and usability of existing computational tools and infrastructure, including building and optimizing our CI/CD, container management, and automation pipelines for efficiency and reliability.
• Engage in active collaboration with other science and engineering teams to deeply understand their technical needs and effectively translate scientific challenges into innovative software and infrastructure solutions.
• Document software and infrastructure design, as well as user guides for researchers and technical staff, ensuring clear communication and ease of use for all developed tools and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Bioinformatics, similar field, or equivalent. 
• Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in a life sciences or similarly data intensive environment
• High-throughput genome sequencing analysis and pipeline development is a huge plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Deep understanding of software engineering principles and best practices, especially around container-based data analysis workflows.
• Experience with any of the following software technologies is a big plus: Docker, Nextflow, WDL, AWS Batch, AWS Lambda, Apache Kafka, Conda
• Experience with any of the following genomics tools is a big plus: BWA, GATK, Picard, pysam, htslib, etc.
