Sr. Database Administrator (DBA)

Position Overview 

The Sr. Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the operational support of our database environments. The role supports our PostgreSQL, Oracle & Oracle Financial Accounting System (e-Business Suite Release 12), MS SQL Server, MySQL, and MongoDB based applications on-prem and in the cloud.  

Core Responsibilities 

  • Proactively monitor the health of enterprise databases – coordinate and make changes as needed. 
  • Database backups, restores, and refreshes. 
  • Document processes and complying with best practices in database management. 
  • Develop procedures to ensure data integrity and quality. 
  • Conduct diagnostic tests and evaluate performance metrics. 
  • Enhance the scalability and performance of existing database architecture. 
  • Support patching cycles for Infrastructure and DB patching. 
  • Develop database structures and features according to organizational needs. 
  • Prepare and present system performance reports to senior management. 
  • Protect data by developing data security and restoration policies, procedures, and controls in association with and under the guidance of our ISO. 
  • Perform database maintenance, migration, and software. 
  • Train new hires, and mentor database development teams. 
  • Participate on development teams providing advice on design and tuning of database objects, queries, and overall data architecture. 
  • Use of tools and utilities to load and unload data, generate, and edit test data. 
  • Work with the various technology and business teams to ensure that the associated hardware resources are allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimum performance. 
  • Provide trend analysis to the operations team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management. 
  • Provide query and performance expertise in support of code development. 
  • Monitor long running transactions and can optimize query executions.  
  • Problem escalation to development team and third parties as appropriate. 
  • Implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development team. 
  • Documenting technical environments and processes.  
  • Perform regular audits to ensure data integrity and quality. 
  • Respond to critical support issues during non-business hours as part of the on-call rotation. 
  • Builds excellent working relations with all IT colleagues and users, works effectively with department and executive management, and maintains a professional relationship with outside clients. 
  • Work to control database technology costs throughout the enterprise. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Key Qualifications 

  • Strong PostgreSQL database experience, including RDBMS architectures, backups, security, and high availability – minimum 4+ years’ experience.   
  • Strong SQL experience, writing and tuning queries based on application requirements.  
  • Advanced proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) preferred.   
  • Advanced analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.  
  • Ability to effectively document processes, procedures, and workflows.  
  • In-depth hands-on knowledge of database technologies, architecture, and data security.  
  • Knowledge of best practices, trends, and developments in database management. 
  • Demonstrates strong follow-up and follow-through skills in ensuring timely completion of tasks. 
  • Working knowledge of PL/SQL (designing, developing, and maintaining stored procedures, triggers, and user-defined functions). 
  • Self-starter who proactively resolves technical problems or escalates to avoid major delays in delivery of work product. 
  • Ability to work occasional on-call rotation during non-business hours to respond to critical support issues. 
  • Experience with AWS, Azure DevOps.   
  • Oracle & Oracle Financial Accounting System (e-Business Suite Release 12) preferred  

Special Work Conditions  

  • Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.  
Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.The compensation range for this position is:$120,000—$150,000 USD
