Job Description

Researcher 3/Remote Pilot Technologist, PN 20049536

Job Duties:

In the Office of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) independently coordinates research efforts & projects with other departmental units, outside agencies &/or consultants to upgrade roads, structures & landscapes & to resolve UAS equipment issues & support UAS equipment needs. Reviews & analyzes problem or issue to be researched & develops appropriate research tools (e.g., data forms, indexes, processing packages, conceptual models, publications, methodology, design of experiments, hypotheses testing). Designs & implements research projects (e.g., Operates rotorcraft & fixed wing UAS platforms to collect &/or verify infrastructure & land information) & prepares & maintains necessary reports, records &/or technical evaluations relative to unmanned vehicle projects (e.g., Flight Operations; Risk assessments; Mechanical documents; accidents & incidents; inventory management; equipment condition)). Conducts pre-mission planning with the flight operations requestor, develops flight plans by utilizing computer & related software (e.g., UAS specific software, Universal Ground Control Station (UGCS)), checks &/or files Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), checks weather & coordinates airspace integration with any controlling agencies & privately-owned properties within the operation location, when necessary, conducts pre-mission briefings with requestor & operations team; completes safety risk assessment prior to flight).
