The Work You Will Do:

The Operations Analyst I in the Office of Rural Initiatives will serve as the liaison to the South Central Rural Area of Opportunity.

 

*This is a remote position that will serve DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, and Okeechobee counties and will be based in this region as well.*

Pay:  $67,520 Annually

 

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating with both internal and external partners through workshops, meetings, presentations, etc. related to the Department of Commerce’s programs as well as other technical assistance efforts.
  • Providing direct technical assistance to local governments and local businesses on Department of Commerce programs.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with partnering agencies, local communities as well as economic and community development agencies.
  • Preparing reports and analyses as requested by the supervisor for use in decision-making.
  • Routinely reviewing external best practices to ensure a high level of program execution.  Assisting with the integration of the different bureaus within the Division of Community Development and throughout the Department to work towards one common mission.
  • Representing FloridaCommerce on committees and appropriate advisory panels as needed.
  • Coordinating with communications staff to ensure that the positive work conducted by staff is recognized and disseminated statewide.
  • Providing input on policies affecting designated rural areas of the state.  Responding to specific needs and requests for assistance and provides referrals or facilitates access to state resources.  Serve as the primary contact person for issues regarding the economic capacity of the Northwest Rural Area of Opportunity (RAO).
  • Responsible for tracking contacts (in-person and electronic) with each community in the Northwest RAO, and any community or economic development projects that result.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of economic development concepts and the state's economic development programs and functions.
  • Skills in both written and verbal communication and public speaking.
  • Skills in computer programs including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as online survey tools and web meeting software such as GoToMeeting, Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to conduct research and analysis and produce reports based on findings.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and negotiate effectively.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking for planning and economic development issues.
  • Ability to independently exercise sound judgment performing duties.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance to local governments.
  • Ability to provide effective presentations to elected officials and staff.
  • Ability to manage state grants.
  • Ability to utilize problem solving techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team depending on the situation.

 

Qualifications:

As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records. 

 

Minimum:

Must complete the Florida Certified Contract Manager Training within 12 months of appointment.
