 The Medical Coding Coordinator Intern Code Edit Disputes team reviews and educates providers when there is a dispute on adjudicated claims that contain a code editing related denial or financial recovery. The Medical Coding Coordinator performs advanced administrative, operational, and customer support duties that require independent initiative and judgment. May apply intermediate mathematical skills.

The Medical Coding Coordinator Intern will be trained to extract clinical information from a variety of medical records and assigns appropriate procedural terminology and medical codes (e.g., ICD-10-CM, CPT) to patient records. Analyzes, enters and manipulates database. Responds to or clarifies internal requests for medical information. Decisions typically focus on methods, tactics and processes for completing administrative tasks/projects. Regularly exercises discretion and judgment in prioritizing requests and interpreting and adapting procedures, processes and techniques, and works under limited guidance due to previous experience and depth of knowledge of administrative processes and organizational knowledge.

Required Qualifications – What it takes to Succeed 

  • Must be a Military spouse eligible to participate in the Military Spouse Fellowship
  • Prior healthcare knowledge
  • Proficiency using MS Office, navigating multiple systems and platforms and ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic technical difficulties in a remote environment.
  • Critical thinking and root cause analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • AAPC (CPC) or AHIMA (CCS) coding certification
  • Minimum of 2 years Outpatient medical coding experience
  • Medicare and/or Medicaid experience
  • Prior healthcare and/or provider office experience
  • Medicare and Medicaid policy manuals and fee schedules

Work-At-Home Requirements

• WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high-speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.
• A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 25x10 (25mpbs download x 10mpbs upload) is required.  
• Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
• A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information
