Amazon’s Kumo team is looking for a passionate, results-oriented and inventive Software Development Manager. As the development manager of a brand new team, you'll build and lead a talented team of engineers. Responsibilities include direct management of engineers, process and quality of service improvements, strategic planning, project management for software within the team, and management of resources across teams. A successful candidate will have an established background in developing customer-facing experiences, a strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment.

The Amazon Kumo ITS engineering organization is responsible for solving problems and reducing toil through the creation of software systems that improve the lives of our Amazon employees as well as our external customers. Our work is not only highly impactful to how Amazon performs within the enterprise but also generates new and exciting product opportunities to share with the world.
· The pay range for this position in Colorado is $168,100 k - 227,400/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. The pay range for this position in New York City is $184,900 - 250,200(hr/yr); however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Key job responsibilities
- Responsible for the overall systems development life cycle.
- Develop the long-term strategy for your programs and translate that into an achievable road map/action plan.
- Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team.
- Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach.
- Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management.

Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
- Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
- 1+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
- 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of shipping software on time.
- Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions.
