Founded on strong ESG principles, Swvl advances social and economic equity while reducing congestion by an estimated 14.4 million person-hours. The platform has prevented approximately 245 million pounds of Co2 emissions since its inception.

About the Job

We are looking for a leader to help build and guide high impact, high leverage and high visibility team that supports the development experience of Swvl’s engineers. The team creates and supports cross-cutting infrastructural services and tools used by Swvl engineers every day. This includes work on supporting CI, improving build times, developing and maintaining state-of-the-art developer tooling and increasing tooling reliability.We work with a challenging code base used by hundreds of engineers across the globe and we must focus at many levels of the stack across different languages used at Swvl. What we do is key to allow Swvl engineers working on developing customer facing features to have the most productive time of their careers while building, running and deploying new features.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Manage the team including day to day execution and long term planning. You will solicit new project ideas, prioritise them for impact, and drive execution.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture. Provide career guidance and performance feedback to all team members to ensure strategic impact and career progression.
• Work with other Swvl leaders to design and lead developer productivity best practices.
• Empower the engineering teams to achieve a high level of technical productivity, reliability and simplicity.
• Proactively look for ways to improve engineering at Swvl. This may include introducing new tools or technologies, making process improvements, leading or organizing training.
• Work with recruiting and engineering to source qualified engineering candidates, improve our interview process, and make great hires to continue scaling the team.

• For backend, we build in Node.js, go-lang, and typescript
• For the frontend, we build using Node.js and react
• For mobile, we use Swift and Kotlin
• We use AWS and GCP for cloud services
• We manage our infrastructure with Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm, Istio, Vault, Docker, ArgoCD and DataDog
• For persistence, we are mostly using MongoDB & SQL databases
