Development Editor

We are looking for a Development Editor to join our publishing team. The successful candidate will edit books written by some of the world’s leading technology experts, building up an amazing portfolio of titles. We will provide an intensive induction followed by a planned training plan. You'll be given assignments to build your confidence and capabilities and the opportunity for a long-term career with us.

About Learning

Packt Learning team works with high-profile authors who onboarded through an internal Acquisition process with a mission to provide IT professionals with the actionable knowledge they need to get the job done.

What you’ll do?

You will be responsible for editing and crafting high-quality books for publication. This role will involve working collaboratively with authors, external reviewers and an in-house book team. You will take ownership of the quality of each book, with a focus on structure, language, flow and technical accuracy.

Responsibilities include:

• Ensuring that chapters are well-written, free from errors, and deliver the right knowledge to the reader
• Keeping up with trends in technology
• Helping authors to create great content by supporting and guiding them through the writing process
• Work with internal and external reviewers at various stages to improve the learning quality of the product and to ensure that the final product fits the purpose (is technically accurate, error-free, and grammatically accurate)
• Communicating with colleagues around the world using email, Slack and Teams
• Managing your workload to meet monthly project timelines and publication goals
• Understanding the technical publishing market
• Provide project status and content assessment to Senior Editors, Project Managers and other Packt staff

Requirements

Who you are?

• Previous publishing, editing or writing experience
• Excellent written English skills
• Strong project- and time-management skills
• A great eye for detail
• A demonstrable interest in technology
• General understanding of technical concepts, software development, and current industry trends
• A degree in any subject
• Good organization skills
• Excellent communication skills
