SUMMARY

The AccuWeather Technology organization is seeking an experienced leader to manage a team of talented software engineers who deliver and maintain the AccuWeather SDK and Toolkits. We are looking for someone who, in addition to excellent management skills, acts as a leader for the technical roadmap, communicates timeline, quality, and financial risks to stakeholders, and collaborates closely with Product and Project leads as well as peers across the organization.

In addition to sound management skills, you identify areas of strategic technical debt and opportunities for improvement, align the cost/benefit analysis, and clearly communicate the risks, impacts, and recommended timelines. You guide teams, with principles founded on cloud and automation, towards best practices that allow progress to be made efficiently and sustainably.

You are an independent Manager who is comfortable managing team members with different skillsets from your own. You demonstrate leadership by supporting the growth and development of your team as a whole and individually. You will coach and develop your team to maximize strengths and develop strong and collaborative partnerships across AccuWeather. Goal setting is integral, and you facilitate your team’s participation in defining priorities and what is important.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead, manage, and grow a team of software engineers
  • Collaborate with Product, Technology, and Design to deliver innovative solutions
  • Define, implement, and continuously improve software engineering practices
  • Ensures design and delivery of software that is of high quality, HA, monitorable, and maintainable
  • Champions quality, automation, continuous improvement, and agile methodologies
  • Reports to business partners and leadership on activities, risks, and issues on key projects
  • Facilitates team communications and leads discussions across the team and functional groups
  • Assigns areas of ownership and ensures resources have clear priorities and adequate resources
  • Experiment with and learn new technologies and stay on top of technology trends
  • Encourage diversity, innovation, outside-the-box thinking, collaboration, and self-organization
  • Collaborate with other leaders and peers to define, execute, and drive strategies and roadmaps
  • Work with external vendors in defining and developing initiatives that support AccuWeather’s business and technology needs
  • Contributes to the development of an operating plan and budget
  • Mentors and guides the professional and technical development of engineers on your team
  • Coaches team members to progress career goals and personal development goals
  • Attracts and retains diverse, high performing, software engineering leaders and individuals
  • Participate in internal and external technology communities and mentor members of the engineering community

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • BS/BA in related discipline with 5 or more years of experience and 3 or more years of management experience
  • Experience with technical and organizational leadership
  • Ability to lead and work within geographically distributed engineering teams
  • Advocate for software engineering and testing processes and concepts
  • Advocate for Agile, DevOps, Automation, and CI/CD processes and concepts
  • Deep familiarity with global, large scale, distributed platforms
  • Understanding of software packaging and distribution platforms for SDKs
  • Understanding of and experience with caching strategies (Akamai)
  • Demonstrated experience developing with C#, Kotlin, Swift and Node.js
  • Understanding of performance engineering and monitoring, logging, and analytics tools
  • Experience leading teams of 5 or more software engineers
  • Experience leading contracting vendors and consultants
  • Self-driven with good problem-solving skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to be adaptable, proactive, and willing to take ownership
  • Excellent communication skills, along with superior collaboration, reporting, and analytical skills
  • Remote candidates in Canada and the United States are being considered for this opportunity
