We are searching for a Software Engineer who will build prototypes for verifying emissions and other environmental impacts across projects in the Filecoin ecosystem.
Filecoin Green is a fast-growing initiative dedicated to measuring, reducing and mitigating environmental impacts within the Filecoin ecosystem and beyond. We believe that the core promise of Web3 - to push power to the margins by upgrading our computing infrastructure to be publicly verifiable and widely interoperable - will supercharge environmental accounting over the coming decade and play a powerful role in improving global sustainability. Our team aims to catalyze this by enabling teams across the Filecoin ecosystem to verifiably report their emissions, and to use these data as the basis for impact reductions.
The Software Engineering role will entail building and demonstrating core functions enabling verifiability of emissions and other environmental impacts across projects using Filecoin. This will require collaborating with a wide array of teams both inside and outside of Protocol Labs.

As a Software Engineer in Filecoin Green, you will…

  • Oversee integrations between the Filecoin Green Dashboard, Filecoin Reputation Systems, and tooling built by the Energy Web Foundation
  • Build tools to facilitate purchases of Renewable Energy Credits from brokers, based on the energy use of Filecoin Storage Providers (SPs)Develop systems allowing SPs to provide granular energy use measurements as the basis for environmental accounting
  • Integrate data streams to allow carbon emissions to be estimated and matched to offsets or other environmental products
  • Develop capability to produce customized SP energy use estimates based on known hardware or design parameters
  • Work across teams to design and build proofs of concept tracking environmental impacts throughout the the Filecoin ecosystem and enabling actions to reduce and mitigate them

You may be a fit for this role if you have…

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • A strong technical design ability informed by broad experience across multiple domains or specialties
  • Experience building internal or external products with high ownership across the product
  • Significant experience building applications using JavaScript
  • Prior Web3 engineering experience Good intuition with Web3 ecosystems and how the industry is evolving.
  • Proven track record of independently driving projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills on both technical and non-technical issues
  • A genuine passion for issues related to energy, environmental justice and environmental sustainability

Bonus points if you have experience with…

  • Systems using energy or carbon emissions data
  • Running a startup or high growth team
  • Leading open source projects, and/or guiding their communities
  • Experience speaking at conferences, developer summits, or virtual events
