About the role:
This is a newly created position on the Patchwork and Accessibility team that will report into the Senior Manager of Engineering. The Patchwork & Accessibility team is a cross-functional organization that builds Wealthsimple's in-house design system and is responsible for increasing adoption of design system for all Wealthsimple mobile and web products. This adoption will ensure that all products include best usability practices and meet foundational accessibility requirements. 
In this position, you will have the oversight of the delivery and roll out of the new user interface (UI) component library for our React applications. This broad scope is broken out into three key desired outcomes; increased adoption, increased contributor experience, and design consistency and compliance.
You will be responsible for leading the roadmap towards increased adoption of the library by ensuring designers and engineers utilize Patchwork in their designs and codebases and they feel empowered to contribute to Patchwork. This will also mean that all Wealthsimple product teams adopt a "Patchwork first" mindset before building. You will help in building a culture of consistently testing for accessibility and define clear contributor guidelines and contribution processes. Through the delivery of this desired state, you will be looked as a technical leader who will run weekly sprints and monthly rituals, provide mentorship and guidance, and build best practices that can scale with us.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Prepare updates and vision documents, briefings, reports, and demonstrate excellent communication skills and executive presence in presentations on our Patchwork and Accessibility program
  • Establish strong working relationships with groups involved in software engineering and design matters (Engineering, UX, UI, Product, Regulatory Compliance, Business Operations, etc.)
  • Ensure all stakeholders understand and fulfill their (evolving) role in the program
  • Establish and maintain a rigorous and highly transparent communication program to ensure all parties are feeling informed about the Program's progress and potential issues
  • Lead long term, cross-functional projects with business wide impact
  • Regularly report on program performance
  • Work closely with the project team to facilitate and/or manage the gathering of business requirements of the program
  • Ensure timelines are consistently defined and followed
  • Clearly document roles & responsibilities for each member of the program
  • Support program governance
  • Continuously engage all necessary parties to successfully complete the program
  • Actively identify and manage issues, risks and escalations to resolution
  • Conduct interim project evaluations and post program reviews to learn from past experiences

We're looking for someone who:

  • Brings 5+ years of experience as a technical project manager
  • Has experience working within a technical or engineering organization
  • Has the ability to gain a deep understanding of complex systems in order to recognize impacts and limitations and to communicate that information to others
  • Has experience establishing programs and procedures dedicated to improving product experiences, preferably with a background working within a React environment
  • Helps teams clarify scope and expectations, so all stakeholders understand results
  • Facilitates prioritization, ensuring releases deliver the most critical/impactful results on time while ensuring less urgent but important work is not neglected
  • Has strong experience with JIRA, Business Intelligence, and PM Tools
  • Is self-directed, brings ideas to the table, and takes ownership of their projects
  • Has the ability to prioritize and manage work for self and others, adhering to multiple project timelines simultaneously
  • Takes ownership and sees initiatives through
  • Values open communication and working on an exceptionally transparent team

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree specialization in a related technical field
  • Any of the following designations / certifications: CFA, CPA, PMP, CSM, ITIL, Lean IT
