The Cloud Engineer works with customers and internal teams to deploy customer environments, troubleshoot and resolve issues during the implementation process, provide guidance and recommendations to increase efficiency and reduce risk of customer incidents.     The Cloud Engineer is expected to take initiative and advise on potential pitfalls that a customer may encounter and suggest alternatives which may better serve the performance, stability and security of the customer's proposed environment..     The Cloud Engineer will assist in developing tooling and processes to drive and improvements in internal and external customer experience and provide mentoring on customer related issues to the wider team and junior engineers.


  • Provide Fanatical customer support through your customer interactions during their implementation phase
  • Provide technical expertise and communicate successfully with internal and external stakeholders.  Think outside of the box regarding customer requirements and use knowledge / experience to implement scalable, long term solutions
  • Own issues end to end and work collaboratively with team members and business partners to troubleshoot deployment incidents
  • Take ownership and lead customer and internal engagements where necessary to ensure customer objectives are met
  • Deep dive into complex customer requirements, providing technical expertise to help deliver successful customer outcomes
  • Support Rackers and act as technical point of escalation working in collaboration with business partners
  • Create documentation, training material and playbooks to ensure knowledge is shared across the team and with other internal stakeholders
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers both within the team and with business partners
  • Support the development of automation, business processes and tooling to improve business operations and customer experience.
  • Support the launch and roll out of new products / services, become an early adopter/SME and drive understanding and adoption through the team


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate technical detail/concepts to both non-technical and technical audiences
  • Expert knowledge of AWS Public Cloud infrastructure and networking principles
  • Experience with automating and orchestrating workloads on Public Clouds technologies
  • Experience working in an Agile, fast paced, DevOps environment.
  • Professional experience with working at least one of the following technologies: Terraform, CloudFormation, PowerShell, Python
  • Proficient with using source control, i.e. Git
  • Strong Linux or Windows OS skills including but not limited to: Server Failover Clustering, Active Directory
  • Experience in the configuration, management, and troubleshooting of common web servers such as: Apache, Nginx, IIS.
  • Experience in the configuration, management, and troubleshooting of Varnish, Squid, Memcached, Redis and other similar technologies.
  • Experience in open source technologies such as databases and caching layers
  • Knowledge (preferably experience) in building distributed, highly available applications or systems architectures.
  • A working understanding of Load balancers and Load balancing methodology.
  • Working knowledge of Backup and Recovery methodology and implementations.

Desirable Skills

  • Proficient in leveraging tools to automate infrastructure deployments such as CircleCI, AWS Code Pipeline, Azure DevOps or other such tools desirable
  • Automation experience with at least one configuration management system such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt or other such tools desirable
  • Knowledge of containerised environments (Docker/LXC) and Kubernetes desirable
