Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will help manage the payroll and compensation functions at Notarize. You'll assist with monthly and annual closing, help our team build new payroll procedures, assist with implementing systems, and partner with business stakeholders on ad-hoc projects.  This role has an opportunity to grow into a Senior Payroll position.

What you’ll do as a Payroll Specialist at Notarize:

  • Prepare payroll, ensuring that both hourly and salaried payrolls are paid accurately within strict deadlines
  • Partner with HR and managers to ensure time spreadsheet are filled out accurately and timely
  • Assist calculating  variable compensation and commission
  • Work with finance to process external contractor payouts and disputes
  • Work closely with Payroll & Compensation Specialist  and HR to build improved payroll process and relevant controls
  • Help ensure that the team is compliant with relevant rules and legislation
  • Assist the team with annual audit
  • Apply federal and state regulations and company policy on all payments and deductions
  • Pursuing policy of continuous improvement
  • Be a part of multiple software implementations related to payroll
  • Assist with reconciliation processes and resolution of any payroll discrepancies
  • Maintain a positive customer service focus to both internal and external payroll clients
  • Work cross functionally with other departments
  • Assist with year-end duties such as preparing 1099 and special projects related to payroll 

What we’re looking for:

  • 2+ years payroll experience with exposure to calculating sales commissions
  • Multi-State Payroll Processing Experience
  • Experience implementing new systems and processes
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Knowledge of tax regulations including federal and state legislation
  • Willingness to step into various activities to support the team objectives 
  • Demonstrable experience of working to deadlines and performing duties under pressure.
  • Experience creating SOP and/or Desk Procedures
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel skills
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Good analytical ability and excellent communication skills. 
  • Experience with Trinet, ADP, Bamboo HR, Paycor,  and Netsuite preferred
