The Senior People Business Partner 
Petal’s People team is at the heart of our growing organization. We enable the Petal team to achieve balance across professional growth, personal fulfillment, company-wide productivity, and customer impact. We’re looking for an experienced and dedicated Senior People Business Partner to join us in this mission. In this role, you will partner with cross-functional leaders to design and implement strategies that will help shape and maintain a high-performing and dedicated team. You will manage programs to support manager effectiveness, employee development, and retention, all while serving as a valued resource for employees and a steward of our Values. 
With your collaborative approach, deep functional expertise, and business acumen, you will build a foundation of trust across the organization, and contribute to making Petal a truly exceptional workplace across all of our locations. This role reports to the Head of People and can be based in NYC, Richmond, VA, or remotely. 

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with leaders to structure and develop their teams in a rapidly growing organization 
  • Execute performance enablement, compensation reviews, career pathing, succession planning, and other key People programs for assigned teams 
  • Proactively identify team needs and emerging challenges, and leverage data and observations from across the organization to provide insight to the business and inform recommendations 
  • Serve as a culture carrier and a voice for employees, balancing employee experience with business needs
  • Resolve employee relations issues quickly and tactfully, demonstrating sound judgement and working with legal counsel as appropriate
  • Maintain an inclusive culture and a motivating workplace through initiatives related to employee engagement, recognition, and retention
  • Keep a pulse on shifting laws and regulations, to ensure we stay current, competitive, and compliant across all states where we operate 
  • Advise and coach managers and employees through challenges big and small, supporting career growth and fulfilling experiences at Petal

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a People/HR role, including demonstrated success in a business partner capacity
  • Experience in a growing startup 
  • Broad exposure across the People function, including performance enablement, compensation, HR compliance,  and employee relations 
  • Strong collaborator who inspires trust and effectively influences stakeholders
  • Follow-through and attention to detail to lead complex projects/programs from concept through completion 
  • Excellent communicator; equally effective presenting to leadership and serving as an approachable resource for employees 
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations and confidential information with grace, empathy, and sound judgement 
  • Experience deriving insights from data; Excel skills are highly valuable 
  • Foundational understanding of employment law
  • Experience supporting a nonexempt/hourly employee population is a plus
