Section4 is looking for an experienced DevOps/Cloud Engineer to join our growing team.  You will be the first full-time engineer in this role.  The role will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
As the Sr. DevOps/Cloud Engineer, you will provide leadership within the software engineering team for security, cloud services, code pipeline, and the release process for our digital products.  You will also be responsible for our products to meet their expected SLA’s by building out a scalable and reliable infrastructure utilizing various AWS services. This role is critical to the successful delivery of fabulous products to our users.  You must have a real passion for systems that are secure, scale, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. 
This position is a remote position based in the US.

In this role, you will help deliver the initial version of our products, including:

  • A novel e-learning experience for business people
  • Synchronous and asynchronous communication interfaces
  • Synchronous and asynchronous video interfaces
  • Interactive feedback elements
  • Dashboards for students and enterprise buyers
  • As an early member of our technical staff, you will shape how we think about engineering culture, tech innovation, and scalability, as well as help, grow our team

What you'll do

  • Design, implement, test, and deploy solutions for Section4's cloud (AWS) based products and infrastructure.
  • Develop automated solutions that run our production cloud environment and maintain the health of those systems through monitoring and metrics
  • Measure and optimize system performance
  • rovide operational systems support
  • Assist release manager with deployments of our digital products

Who you are

  • Minimum of 5+ years of cloud experience required
  • Minimum of 3+ years of AWS experience required (or AWS Professional certification).
  • AWS Solutions Architect - Professional or AWS DevOps Engineer - Professional certification preferred. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, able to connect dots quickly to resolve customer problems
  • Experience in monitoring platforms such as New Relic, Catchpoint, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk
  • Passion for Performance testing having used popular tools such as JMeter, Gatling, Locus.io
  • Hands-on coding infrastructure with Terraform, Cloudformation
  • Hands-on experience using a broad range of AWS technologies (e.g. EC2, RDS, ALB/WAF, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, Lambda, AppSync, API Gateway) to develop and maintain an Amazon AWS-based cloud solution with an emphasis on best practice cloud security.
  • Systems administration with popular scripting languages such as Bash, Python
  • Experience with large and complex applications which span multiple teams and stakeholders
  • Determined and always ready to roll up sleeves to respond to the needs of customers proactively and promptly.
  • Helpful if you've worked at a B2C software company or otherwise have experience building software at a fast-growing startup.
