The Job
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Producer to join Crime Show, one of Gimlet’s newest shows, focused on telling first-hand experiences about crime and criminal justice.
This will be a wide-ranging role that will have a high-level impact on the way Crime Show gets made. The ideal candidate will be energized by the opportunity to help implement and refine production workflows and formats and pursue exciting new stories.
You’ll be involved in every element of production, from pitching to finalizing episodes, serving a key role in project management, and be part of a team of people trusted to listen for qualities that will captivate listeners.
This is a role for a highly organized and accomplished producer with a journalism background, who thrives under deadlines and accepts and provides constructive feedback to team members.
This show and team are based out of the Los Angeles office, but the role is remote-eligible.

What You'll Do

  • Brainstorm, develop and shape ideas for stories
  • Set deadlines, clearly communicate those deadlines and keep the team on track and working toward its goals
  • Work with Host and supporting producers to identify sources, subjects and interviews
  • Track down court documents, submit public records requests, find and secure archival tape
  • Plan and execute field producing and reporting trips in collaboration with supervising producers
  • Organize audio assets; selecting the strongest tape with other team members
  • Write and edit scripts
  • Cut tape, assemble mixes, and score episodes
  • Provide edit notes on other team member’s episodes

What You'll Bring

  • A strong interest in the world of crime, punishment, and justice
  • A minimum of five years of experience producing audio for radio or podcast
  • A journalism background
  • Experience organizing and working on a tight production schedule and translating ideas into action
  • Preference for working with and helping to lead a collaborative team
  • An ability to listen to raw tape, and identify the perfect details, the need-to-know plot points, and the need-to-hear moments that make a story
  • Experience scripting 20-40 minute audio stories
  • Empathy and strong interviewing skills for the stories of those affected by criminal acts, including victims, family members and others
  • Love of narrative structure and genre conventions (all genres, not just crime)
  • Proficiency in field recording, with a variety of audio equipment
  • Proficiency in creating assemblies in ProTools

Where You'll Be

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location.
  • Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences. Find more information about our Work From Anywhere options here
