Main Tasks of the Editorial AssistantThe Editorial Assistant supports the editorial staff in the production and publishing of content assets. 
Core aspects of the role are:
Administrative Assistance:As the Editorial Assistant, you are responsible for providing direct assistance to editors, including fielding incoming messages, organizing assets and source files, packaging up materials for freelancers, submitting requests, calculating expenditure, organizing projects, and various other editorial logistics.
Proofreading:When appropriate, the Editorial Assistant will be asked to perform basic editing tasks, checking the grammar and punctuation of content pieces prior to their publication.
Liaison to Freelancers:When there is a problem or an issue needs to be addressed, editorial assistants may reach out to writers in an attempt to resolve them. They may also act as liaisons between writers and senior or executive editors.

Required Skills:

  • The Editorial Assistant must have a strong understanding of the publishing process as well as excellent writing and editing skills while possessing the following traits and abilities:
  • Writing skills – Edit and check the punctuation and grammar of a publication to ensure it is readable.
  • Administrative experience –  Perform administrative tasks for senior editors, which include a wide-range of tasks using various software tools
  • Publishing knowledge – Know the ins and outs of content marketing/publishing.
  • Multitasking – Juggle several tasks at once, providing editorial support to multiple individuals in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Communication skills – Have strong written and verbal communication skills; you are responsible for communicating with writers, other departments, and senior editors.
  • Attention to detail – The wheels of content grind exceedingly fine, and attention to detail is a must for this role.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field such as marketing, journalism, media, or English is required
  • Proven work experience in a similar role
  • Working knowledge of AP Style
  • Familiarity with WordPress and other publishing programs
