The successful candidate will be largely responsible for the preparation and timely completion of income tax returns and sales tax returns for Wealthsimple. This individual will be reporting to the Senior Manager, Tax and work closely with and share information with the Corporate Finance and FP&A team. 

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist with month-end closing duties by reconciling sales tax accounts and investigating discrepancies
  • Prepare and file sales tax returns within the timeframe specified by Canada Revenue Agency
  • Prepare T2 corporation income tax returns and quarterly tax/year-end tax provisions
  • Prepare and coordinate tax payments and monitor for refunds
  • Research and interpret Canadian income tax legislation and separate sales tax programs including GST/HST, PST, and QST on an as-needed basis
  • Be involved with CRA and other taxation authorities for matters relating to assessments, audits and other administrative items
  • Work on ad hoc projects such as analyze and provide support for forecasting and planning initiatives
  • Assist with preparing information returns, prescribed forms, or slips (election forms, bank tax forms, T1134)

We're looking for someone who has:

  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting/tax experience that included the provision of advice to internal or external clients preferably in the financial service sectors
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business/ Accounting
  • The Canadian Accounting Designation (CPA)
  • Enrolled in or completed the CPA In-Depth Tax Program
  • Knowledge of Canadian indirect tax
  • Experience in CRA audit procedure and defence
  • Experience in financial institutions (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Excel, Netsuite and commonly used tax software and research tools (i.e., Taxprep, CCH)
  • Tax research skills and understands IFRS; knowledge of accounting principles as they relate to indirect tax and income tax is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with proven ability to communicate technical and highly complex information
  • The ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work towards deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Proven technical, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • A proactive nature, curiosity and a proven self-starter with a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrable and exceptional attention to detail
