Geotab is seeking a Software Developer who will be part of a team who builds a state of the art telematics platform that manages custom-built hardware. Team Falcon:The team you will be working in is made up of embedded linux firmware developers, software developers, one other full stack developer, and QA. This team maintains over a dozen legacy hardware devices, is currently working on releasing a new hardware device for public sales, and has more new devices on the horizon. Customer data is collected, organized and displayed with the Geotab information systems. Current hardware devices are managed with the node.js information system that this position is for, and it involves fixing bugs, adding new features, enhancing its usability, and increasing its scalability.
What you’ll do: 
As a Software Developer your key area of responsibility will be writing high-performance Javascript code in a node.js environment, and SQL queries to process and store information. This position also writes HTML, and CSS code to create fast and responsive user interfaces. You will need to work closely with other members of the development and technical teams. 
To be successful in this role you will be able to work well under pressure and respond to fast changing priorities and deadlines, highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve to well-judged decisions and strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Define, design, and implement new software applications in collaboration with other members of the development and technical teams.
  • Translate application storyboards and use cases into functional applications.
  • Perform Test-Driven and Security-Driven Development.
  • Conduct comprehensive code reviews and ensure that coding standards are followed.
  • Analyze call stacks, trace files, debug logs or performance data to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of bugs.
  • Participate in development of prototypes, minimum viable products and PoCs.
  • Help maintain code quality, organization and automation.
  • Perform maintenance programming for existing applications.
  • Ensure the functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and system architecture for each assignment.
  • Provide design documents and documentation to ensure efficient maintenance and code reuse.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements in the overall development process.

What you’ll bring to this role:

  • 3+ years of experience programming with javascript, HTML, and CSS in a node.js environment.
  • SQL Server and Postgres. Database design, optimization and writing queries.
  • Experience programming in C# and .Net with object-oriented design, unit testing, optimization and multithreaded programming.
  • Experience in Python, TypeScript, ES6, .Net Core, Google Compute Engine, Google BigQuery.
  • Nice to have: Linux and embedded Linux experience, and experience programming in C/C++ and the Rust programming language.
  • Nice to have: Docker experience and dev-ops experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to work well under pressure and respond to fast changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to problem-solve to well-judged decisions.
  • A strong team-player with the ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
  • Technical competence using software programs, including, but not limited to, Google Suite for business (Sheets, Docs, Slides).
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfortable in a flat organization.
