The Role We are looking for an experienced Sales Engineer that has the track record and aptitude to become our Business Development Team’s secret weapon. You will have a history of working with customers and sales to design enticing high-tech solutions for universities, municipalities, real estate developments and/or business parks. You will become an expert in our product and help to identify and assess feasibility of routes for autonomous vehicles, determine fleet size and operating characteristics to meet customer goals. As a critical part of our sales efforts, you will explain our solutions to customers and prepare thoughtful proposals that can garner support from internal stakeholders that move customers to action. As one of the first members of the Business Development Team, you will help establish effective pre-sales scoping processes and build a high-performance culture grounded in customer empathy and a desire to transform how communities meet their mobility needs. Opportunities abound as we continue to grow the team and collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and Operations to shape the future of our product, service delivery and company.    

Responsibilities

  • Our Sales Engineer will become a product and AV shuttle market expert and establish credibility with prospective buyers by developing concrete solutions that have been vetted, sized and priced for success. They will constantly be on the hunt for new customers whose needs are aligned to our product and help create compelling business proposals that solve local transit problems. 
  • Drive our value propositions into a complete system design to showcase our innovation and differentiation while addressing customer needs and technical challenges. You will do this by:

  • Analyze demand and plan transportation needs (i.e., expected ridership and peaks vs. baseline demand)
  • Design routes (identify points of interest and use cases and how we connect) and AV service (fixed loop, fixed time or on-demand as well as any requirements about wait times or headways)
  • Evaluate technical feasibility of routes and service (requires getting deep on our operational design domain and ability to use available tools to understand road conditions)
  • Estimate fleet size (and basic operational parameters like vehicles on road and charging rotation) based on routes, demand, and service plan
  • Prepare presentations to support our commercial proposal.
  • Draft the technical part of our commercial bid
  • Respond to customers technical questions on app integrations, vehicle specs, etc

Requirements

  • BS degree in technical field; masters in a relevant field a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences up to the C level
  • 5+ years experience in solution engineering, solutions architecture, sales / account management for corporate, government, or university customers with an emphasis on SaaS or complex technology sales 

  • Experience in any of the following areas is a plus:
  • Autonomous vehicles
  • Car sharing, microtransit, or other transportation field
  • Transportation planning and transportation demand management
  • Real estate development / urban planning / site master planning / architecture
  • Corporate facilities or building management 
  • SaaS sales
  • University operations, transportation, or facilities management
  • B2B2C business models
  • Highly organized self-starter with a tolerance for ambiguity that can operate independently and focus on high-impact activities to advance company objectives
