Position Summary

The Director, Product Management will work closely with the Great Minds’ Chief Academic Officer (CAO), Humanities and the Humanities Director team in order to grow, scale, and expand Great Minds’ Humanities product portfolio, which includes English and History. The Great Minds approach is collaborative and unique, calling for entrepreneurial methods to product development and management that are consistent with its authentic and effective brand. The Director, Product Management will develop, coordinate, and execute product strategies to grow market share and revenue from schools and districts. This role is an exceptional opportunity for experienced product directors capable of operating successfully in a collaborative, entrepreneurial, and rapid growth environment. While the work is remote and the ideal candidate will work well independently, this will also be a highly collaborative position, necessitating a strong sense of teamwork and cooperation.



Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic partner to Great Minds’ Chief Academic Officer (CAO) for Humanities to drive product development from conception through launch
  • Work with the CAO for Humanities to design and manage an actionable product development process with a framework aligned to Great Minds’ philosophy and structures, including:
    • Replicable process and templates for each phase of the product development lifecycle, including ongoing product management
    • The conceptualization of product vision, including research, market mapping, competitive analysis, market opportunity, and strategic development
    • A fully developed product development roadmap
    • Release management to ensure appropriate readiness of each product launch
  • Be the key interface working with the curriculum development teams and external partners to drive the creation and execution of the product roadmap
  • Support the CAO for Humanities in the creation and execution of strategic priorities in product development, marketing, product positioning and sales opportunities
  • Evaluate the effect of internal and external forces on market opportunities and recommend short and long-range product strategies (pricing, positioning, promotion, customer relationship management)
  • Proactively identify and resolve strategic and tactical issues that may impair the organization's ability to meet its strategic, financial, and technical goals
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with leaders and professionals throughout the organization including development, content, marketing, finance/analytics, design, legal, and operations to ensure the successful development and implementation of products
  • Lead a team of product managers and support them in product planning, prioritization, and product definition efforts
  • Develop the product delivery roadmap and tasks of the full product management lifecycle by coordinating cross departmental with Sales, Marketing, Operations. Etc.
  • Manages new products, features, and enhancements through multiple stages, including conceptualization, requirement gathering, implementation review and release
  • Leverage data and analytics to develop product standards, measurements, and clear KPI’s to ensure the effectiveness of product and marketing investments

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience working in education publishing with a track record of success in product development, digital product management, curriculum development and project management
  • Ability to navigate the Great Minds climate, where leadership often drives the vision and product decisions and asks Product Teams to deliver solutions and execute
  • Deep respect for knowledge-building content and the ability to consult with experts to produce a high-quality product that meets market demands
  • Proven track record of leading cross functional efforts with a collaborative approach, equally comfortable talking content development with writers, tech with developers, user experience with designers, copy and positioning with product marketers, numbers with finance and marketing, and strategy with executive leadership
  • Adept at navigating multiple constituencies, including customers, sales team, and the content development team, that require a sophisticated level of sensitivity and excellent judgement
  • Possessing a leadership style that is collaborative and inclusive, creating the conditions, structure, and the framework leading to optimal levels of trust, efficiency, and success
  • Extensive experience developing digital products and understanding the unique challenges associated with the transformation of print materials to a digital format
  • Demonstrated success in a leadership role during the launch and adoption of a scaled technology product or platform with complex, interrelated work streams
  • A strong business acumen, with the ability to think about ROI, strategic pricing, and the potential value of ideas in order to help the team prioritize where and how to spend limited resources
  • Knowledge of project breakdowns, budget, and scheduling, and an understanding of how to move a project from prototype to production
  • Capacity to prioritize external and internal feedback to drive product and process improvements, accepting criticism as opportunities to learn
  • Alignment to Great Minds collaborative and authentic approach to the K-12 Humanities market
  • Impeccable social, oral communication, and writing skills needed to incorporate different points of view and present them as a unified plan
  • Strong organizational habits necessary for successful goal setting, project management, collective decision making, deadline execution, and record keeping
  • Ability to synthesize market, customer, and cross-organizational needs for teams, particularly teams new to product mindset, digital development, and revenue-driven decision-making
