Kalo Ingredients is a new company built on Ginkgo’s platform with the goal of building a new ingredient toolset for the beauty and personal care industry. Our mission is to create the most consequential personal care ingredients and brands of this century through radical performance, unparalleled sustainability and new storytelling. Our early team members will be critical to shaping and driving Kalo’s ethos around a “biology-first” future for the industry.
We are building an organization where technology and storytelling coexist in a symbiotic relationship. To accomplish our vision, we will need to be really good at two things: consumer engagement and technical innovation - and they will need to work together in concert. We are looking for an enthusiastic teammate with a technical background, but with a bias for commercial execution.
This role will require creative thinking and exploration, as it will play a highly influential role in the early framing of our innovation identity, processes, and culture. This role will also shape and support Kalo’s evolving technical and commercial needs as they emerge.

Execute on key initiatives:

  • Review our existing portfolio of ingredients and develop thoughtfully designed, synergistic business plans across our B2B channel
  • Develop a platform / ingredient-based business strategy to drive growth
  • Launch new active ingredients, and follow-up on these launches with continued promotion and business plans
  • Develop marketing communication plans to promote both innovative new product and reinforce the company’s trusted brand image and unique position in the marketplace
  • Have the capability to translate market data into strategic ideas for business that highlights the unique opportunities of a biology-first approach
  • Perform economic analysis of potential ingredients and use this data to create ideas around positioning and go-to-market strategy
  • Develop budget, execution and KPIs for all B2B initiatives
  • Work with Marketing to guide creative development related to claims, performance and applications
  • Collaborate with the Head of Biotech, manufacturers, and regulatory partners to ensure all products are compliant
  • Provide input and build on the creation of strong concepts based on key insights and technology storytelling angles
  • Do “whatever it takes” to get the job done and work effectively and efficiently without drama or ego. We are a dynamic startup whose priorities may need to shift
  • Motivated to deliver truly meaningful and impactful work and products to consumers and customers to create a lasting positive change in the industry

Desired Experience and Capabilities:

  • 6+ years of related work experience in cosmetic ingredients, with a track record of launching active ingredients
  • Experience in building out B2B strategy
  • Experience with innovative communications campaign development 
  • Obsession with products, innovation, marketing, and delivering a best-in-class consumer experience
  • Uses a good mix of data, intuition, and creativity to drive business decisions with a trend-hunting and growth mindset
  • Relevant technical background and knowledge of key global regulatory topics is a plus
