As an Engineering Manager at Medallia, you will be leading our Sense360 Data Science team, whose mission is to create actionable insights for the leading enterprises.  You’ll help our high performing team continue to expand our capabilities leveraging panels of millions of users – combining foot traffic, transaction data, and user survey data.  You’ll work with our product team to discover new business opportunities to help some of the largest brands in the world.
Our data pipeline processes 1.6+ TB sensor data/day and is built using Spark, AWS, Python, Airflow. Below is a list of the major initiatives that you will be helping with.
*Analyze and integrate new data sources such as receipt data, POS data, product review data*Enhance our survey pipeline from batch to near real-time*Work closely with our data science team to build and deploy model training platforms*Create new products to drive value for our enterprise clients*Scale and optimize our analytics database cluster

Responsibilities

  • We are looking for a hands on individual that will lead and mentor a team of 8 data scientists and data analysts working on a variety of problems such as:

  • Building new market research metrics using our Foot Traffic, Transaction and Survey data sets.
  • Use tools like Airflow, Spark and Redshift to build data pipelines.
  • Training and deploying Machine Learning models to enhance the customer experience.
  • Providing data analysis and dashboards for internal and external customers.
  • Build and inspire a Sense360 team with distributed team members and global dependencies
  • Develop and mentor the growth of engineers on the team
  • Lead hiring for positions and backfills on the Sense360 team
  • Work closely with Product and Design teams to refine requirements and plan out new user-facing features
  • Develop new user-facing features and customer-driven enhancements to Employee Experience 360
  • Work with team to provide accurate estimates for work and manage to successful, on-time completion
  • Guide team to build scalable, maintainable solutions
  • Assist in monitoring of production assets and incident management
  • Participate in a thriving Engineering community, helping shape mid/long-term technical roadmap and architecture patterns for the global Engineering organization

Requirements

  • MS in CS, math, statistics, or other quantitative major
  • 5+ years working in Data Science, 2+ years leading a team 
  • Advance knowledge of SQL
  • Advance knowledge of Python and software development best practices
  • Advance knowledge of Statistics
  • Experience with Machine Learning in a professional environment
  • Experience with Spark or other distributed framework
  • Experience with AWS or any other cloud provider
  • Experience developing production code and pipelines
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience communicating and presenting to leadership team
  • Familiarity with Scrum and Agile processes
  • Experience with GitHub, Jira or equivalent
  • Ability to work in fast-paced and distributed teams.

Nice to haves

  • Experience managing contractors
  • Bring an ownership mindset with quality orientation and DevOps experience
  • AWS components like S3, Lambda, Athena, Glue, Redshift, RDS, etc
  • Experience managing processes using Airflow
