The Capacity Management Engineer is responsible for ensuring that services and infrastructure are able to deliver the agreed capacity and performance targets in a cost effective and timely manner, considering all resources required to deliver the service, and plans for short, medium and long term business requirements.

How you will make an impact:

  • Present project status and department initiatives at meetings with management and peers. Track statistics and provides status and metrics.
  • Provide recommendations to leadership for strategic vision, process development, monitoring reports, performance measurement, and tool selection.
  • Work closely with leads to develop and implement staffing and operational plans. Participate in the development of short and long term department goals.
  • Manage the development, approval, and implementation of capacity plans and models, including strategic plans.
  • Assist in developing departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges.
  • Provide feedback on the effectiveness and end-to-end Capacity Management Process work-flow to the Capacity Management Lead.
  • Risk Management: identification and management or mitigation of risks.
  • Provide regular reports on capacity to the management team.
  • Identify and deliver key Capacity Management improvement initiatives.
  • Provide holistic management of capacity that includes processes as well as technology.
  • Provide regular management reports which include current usage of resources, trends and forecasts.
  • Represent Change Management in our cross divisional Capacity Steering Committee and contribute to strategic development of Capacity Management across the organization.
  • Design a service so that it meets service-level agreement (SLA) objectives once implemented.
  • Manage resource performance so that services meet SLA objectives.
  • Assist with the diagnosis of performance-related incidents and problems.
  • Create and maintain a capacity plan that aligns with the organization’s budget cycle, paying particular attention to costs against resources and supply versus demand.
  • Continue the review of current service capacity and service performance.
  • Gather and assess data regarding service usage and document new requirements as needed.
  • Guide the implementation of changes related to capacity.
  • Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ensures that there is sufficient capacity to meet service level targets.
  • Keeps IT management informed about capacity needs.
  • Provides capacity requirements for new or modified IT services.
  • Maintains an overall understanding of current service capacity and trends.
  • Ensures that performance testing is carried out on new and modified IT services.
  • Works to proactively provide sufficient IT capacity.
  • Produces and maintains a Capacity Plan.
  • Ensures that capacity-related incidents and problems are addressed.
  • Ensures the creation, maintenance, and use of a Capacity Management Information System (CMIS).
  • Assesses the capacity impact of new change requests.
  • Participates on the Change Advisory Board (CAB) as needed.
  • Is responsible for monitoring IT capacity levels, comparing actual levels against targets, and addressing shortfalls.
  • Carries out the Process Manager responsibilities for the Capacity Management process.
  • Knowledge to write database queries for Oracle, SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with Syncsort Athene is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and customers. 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong problem solving ability and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Goal-oriented and ability to be held accountable.
