Senior Research Analyst
As a Senior Research Analyst, you will champion educational data to build an understanding of and drive towards Newsela’s educational effectiveness. You will apply your expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining / analytics, and data visualization to see beyond the numbers and understand how users interact effectively with our product, which will in turn inform future product development decisions. You will partner closely with our Learning team leadership to define, measure, and report on learning and engagement trends. In your day-to-day, you will also collaborate with Data, Business Intelligence, and Product team members to deliver insights on student learning.
Why You’ll Love This Role:
Reporting to the Director of Impact Research, you will be joining a rapidly growing team focused on leveraging data to drive student motivation, engagement, and learning. Your work will help build the foundation for a product that transforms K-12 education. Using rigorous analysis across an expansive breadth of data, your work will help the Content, Product, and Data teams better define Newsela’s learning strategy. You’ll employ a wide range of analytical techniques to uncover truths and help create stronger learning experiences for millions of students.
Why We’ll Love You:
You have 3+ years experience querying large relational databases (SQL) and leveraging a scripting language (R/Python) to analyze data. You have a high level of dexterity with simple statistics (e.g., correlations, t-tests, ANOVAs) and some experience with more complex and modern techniques popular in education and applied psychology research (e.g., multilevel modeling, time series data, psychometric approaches). You can create clear and compelling data visualizations using software like Looker, Tableau, or Power BI. You have a demonstrated ability to track and gauge product success to make data-informed recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders. You love diving into the nitty-gritty of data, but never lose sight of the big picture. While not a requirement, it’s strongly preferred that you have a demonstrated understanding of and deep interest in K-12 education.
