Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented and experienced Senior GIS .Net Software Developer to join an established company, working in an international development team, delivering a product to the Local Government market. 

The Senior GIS Software Developer role is home based in the UK.  

The successful candidate will perform a key role contributing to the design, development and maintenance of our products with a particular focus on our GIS modules.   

As a key member of our development team, you’ll build on your knowledge and experience of all aspects of GIS software development within an agile methodology and you’ll have opportunities to develop new features as well as improve existing applications. 

As a senior developer you will be given the scope to learn and grow professionally, you will enhance your technical skills, build business domain knowledge and be a mentor for less experienced developers. 

Communication and collaboration are also important to this role. As part of one of our development scrum teams, you will work alongside our Development Manager, Scrum Master, Team Leaders, QA Analysts and Business Analysts and attend and report status on daily stand-ups. 


Responsibilities will include: 

  • Development and support of our GIS modules covering loading of maps and advanced searching for properties and features, applying feature overlays, plotting locations and boundaries, conducting spatial analyses of simple and complex geometries. 

  • Working in an agile scrum development team with a mix of developers, QA analysts and BAs. 

  • Reporting progress and highlighting issues on daily scrum stand-ups. 

  • Communicating concisely and effectively with scrum team colleagues and management.  

  • Delivering user stories in accordance with the specified acceptance criteria. 

  • Following agreed standards for coding, unit and integration testing. 

  • Take full responsibility for the functionality you develop ensuring it is maintainable and robust. 

  • Implement solutions considering non-functional requirements such as system performance, usability and security. 

  • Ensuring unit testing covers all scenarios, minimising rework 

  • Responding to issues raised by QA and Product Support teams 



  • Commercial experience developing web-based GIS applications using Microsoft technologies. 

  • Proven record developing large scale products used by multiple customers. 

  • Experience of working in an agile methodology and large flexible development teams. 

  • Experience of delivering large solutions to tight deadlines without compromising on quality of delivered product. 

  • Highly motivated and demonstrate a strong mix of analytical and technical skills 

  • Excellent communicator with clear and concise communication style. 

  • Excellent team player who can deliver on personal tasks and objectives whilst ensuring overall team objectives are also met. 

  • Thirst for knowledge and willingness to learn new skills 

  • Some exposure to Local Government applications would be an advantage, particularly in the Land and Property or Public Protection areas. 

Technical Skills 


  • .NET application design and development (C#, .NET MVC5, JQuery , Javascript,  XML, HTML5, CSS, SQL) 

  • Strong skills in MVC 5 and JQuery 3.6 

  • Leaflet interactive maps integration  

  • Oracle and SQL Server Spatial database knowledge including database design 

  • Experience of accessing geometry data (vector or raster) via OS API and Map Servers (e.g., GeoServer). 

  • Experience of creating WFS feeds from Oracle and SQL Server Spatial for 3rd party system consumption 

  • Experience of implementing different EPSG projections for different geographical locations. 

  • Web services design and development (REST & SOAP)  

  • Using Microsoft Development tools (Visual Studio 2019 and later) 

  • Good knowledge and working experience of XSLT, AJAX, JSON, Bootstrap 3, Knockout 

  • Produce high quality code and carry out code reviews 


  • Familiarity of GeoServer and it’s configuration for sharing geospatial data (WMS, WFS)  

  • Experience of PostGIS  

  • Familiarity with Data Transfer Format (DTF) and National Street Gazetteer (NSG)  

  • UI/UX experience Working in an Agile scrum environment using Microsoft Azure DevOps 

  • Familiarity with build pipelines, continuous integration and release deployment processes 

  • PowerShell scripting experience
