Job Description

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop new systems, validate and operationally test them.
  • Review technology and application portfolio and identify technology roadmap for future data, control and automation systems.
  • Develop test methods to confirm system and component capabilities and work with the engineering staff on implementing  them.
  • Integrate 3rd party solutions into O-I processes.
  • Implement new features and develop modifications to existing systems.
  • Validate new features and modifications and operationally test them.
  • Lead the effort to evaluate existing product lifecycles and work with management on transition planning when necessary.
  • Review and identify best solution(s) to address component obsolescence issues and system enhancement opportunities.
  • Develop business proposals, project scopes, functional specifications, project execution plans, and project/product reports.
  • Interface with plants and regional network leaders.
  • Incorporate high safety standards in all activities.
  • Develop tools and resources to evaluate and/or troubleshoot systems, products, components, and applications.
  • Coordinate and direct internal and 3rd party technical resources to accomplish strategic projects and tasks.
  • Lab setup.
  • Documentation.

 

SCOPE AND IMPACT

This position is responsible for the development, deployment and sustainment of current and future glass container manufacturing systems used throughout our operations globally.

This position will impact the automation, reliability, stability, safety and cost of our glass manufacturing operation.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Bachelor of science in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of design experience with motion control and/or process control applications.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to lead and mentor technical staff, work independently, and as a member of cross functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small technical teams.
  • Experience with industrial communications such as TCP/IP, OPC, Modbus.
  • Exposure to programming for analytics.
  • Working knowledge of analytical and experimental methods.
  • Experience with buildup and testing of prototype processes, equipment, and systems.
  • Track record in development of next generation of methods and processes.
  • Experience utilizing outside technology sources and taking initiatives from concept through commercialization.
  • Experience in designing for a harsh industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in EE or CE or related engineering fields.
  • Software engineering experience. (C, C++, or other OOP languages)
  • Experience in a real-time programming environment.
  • PLC programing experience.
  • VHDL programing experience.
  • Experience in analog and digital electronic hardware design for embedded systems.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and principles of equipment used for manufacturing.
  • Computer and financial/project management skills.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS 

(Include a current organization chart; include both old & new org charts for Department re-organizations)

The position will report to the R&D Analytics & Automation Discipline Leader.  Day to day supervision will be through technical and project leaders.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Domestic + International     20%
