Segment standardizes and streamlines data infrastructure with a single platform that collects, unifies, and sends data to hundreds of business tools with the flip of a switch. That way, our customers can focus on building amazing products and personalized messages for their customers, letting us take care of the complexities of processing their customer data reliably at scale. We’re in the running to power the entire customer data ecosystem, and we need the best people to take the market.    Segment is looking for a Director of Processing to drive the short- and long-term direction for the Processing Pillar of our Core Connections Product. The mission of the Processing Pillar is to help customers understand what data they are collecting, control how it flows through our systems, maintain good data in all places they need it (using Protocols) and observe what the Segment Connections pipeline is doing with their data.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage and develop a team of world-class software engineers across the full spectrum of backend, full-stack, and frontend
  • Help grow our Processing engineering teams from ~10 to ~20 over the next 12 months, scaling further to 30-40 engineers in 24 months  
  • Identify key performance metrics for your group at a company level and drive those metrics
  • Partner closely with other engineering leaders to build the Segment Connections product
  • Partner closely with our product leadership team to define the strategy for the group
  • Work with our go-to-market leadership and cross-functional leadership to bring new product features to life and improve our existing product
  • Be intimately connected to our customers and be a champion and voice of our customers
  • Build a function/brand that attracts aspiring engineers from all over the world
  • Ensure that we build reliable, scalable, secure and cost-effective infrastructure to power our products in the Processing area

What you’ll bring:

  • 10+ years experience or equivalent, including at least 6+ years of managing a team of software engineers
  • Experience driving career growth for early-in-career, mid-level, and senior engineers and engineering managers
  • Experience managing product engineering teams of 10+ members building data-intensive products at high scale
  • Experience with hiring skilled, diverse talent from around the world
  • The ability to synthesize all inputs and develop a very crisp engineering roadmap to deliver on our product promises
  • A proven track record of incredibly impressive product launches
