Job Description

This position is accountable for the administration of the qualified and non-qualified retirement plans for the U.S. and Canada.  Includes assisting with the planning, design, implementation and administration of cost-effective employee benefit programs in a manner consistent with the Company’s Guiding Principles.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

·         Responsible for management of multiple defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans in the U.S. and Canada. 

·         Interface with auditors, actuaries, plan administrators/record keepers, external legal counsel, and internal partners (HR, Finance, Legal, Payroll, Labor Relations and Benefit Services). 

·         Manage accurate and timely filing and processing of all retirement benefit reporting and disclosure responsibilities (PBGC reporting, Form 5500’s, annual funding notices in the U.S. and A.I.R, PBGF reports/funding, all required provincial notifications in Canada, and any/all nondiscrimination testing process). 

·         Update plan documents, summary plan descriptions and other materials. 

·         Oversee production of all materials available to employees and former employees in relation to their retirement benefits. 

·         Provide assistance to the Investment and Canadian Pension Committees and support union negotiations for North American bargaining units.

·         Monitor and assist in response to inquiries from current and former employees. 

·         Stay abreast of legislative changes and trends. 

·         Partner in strategic planning and execution of design and process improvements. 

SCOPE AND IMPACT

This job has the ability to make independent decisions relative to the daily operations of the 8 qualified and 4 non-qualified retirement plans in the U.S. and Canada.  The plans cover over 20,000 participants and $1.5 billion of assets.  Decisions which have a broad impact on the organization require authorization by the manager of this job.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.  CEBS designation preferred.  5-7 years directly related experience.

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office, demonstrated project management experience.

·         Collaborative team member, demonstrates credibility, able to readily adapt to changing priorities

Additional Information

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS 

·         This position has one direct report, a Benefit Analyst responsible for supporting the administration of the plans.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

·         Occasional travel - annual trip for Canadian Pension Assembly (Fall)
