Opportunity…
We are recruiting for a Field Engineer to monitor and oversee construction activities carried out by a contractor at the Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant site. This role focuses on the construction, installation, and assembly of mechanical equipment, including static and rotating equipment, piping, pipe supports, and welding processes.
As part of the surveillance team, you will ensure that all activities comply with the contractor’s work information, providing confidence that quality standards are met. Additionally, you will play a key role in supporting the Team Lead in fulfilling contractual duties and ensuring that HPC’s quality objectives and expectations are achieved.

What you’ll be doing…
As the Field Engineer you will oversee quality compliance within a designated section of the works, ensuring adherence to NNB’s surveillance strategy requirements. Reporting to the Construction Superintendent, you will provide input on site-wide management issues and collaborate closely with other operational team members. In addition to monitoring and reporting responsibilities, the role requires adherence to company policies, procedures, and protocols for construction, health & safety, and quality assurance. You will also have the opportunity to suggest improvements to existing processes to enhance overall project efficiency.
Key responsibilities include ensuring that construction activities align with the Contractor’s Work Information, identifying and addressing potential quality issues before they arise, and assisting in the issuance of non-conformance reports when required. The role also involves maintaining a strong understanding of contractual technical requirements, construction drawings, Quality Control Plans, and Quality Inspection Records to ensure all tasks meet health, safety, and environmental standards.
Who you are…
We are looking for a candidate with a Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent vocational training, along with significant industry experience, especially within turbines. Alternatively, individuals with welding qualifications and extensive hands-on experience will also be considered. A strong understanding of materials, trade methods, and legal requirements is essential. The role requires excellent organisational and communication skills to establish productive working relationships with contractors and stakeholders. Must be able to work effectively within a high-performing team that consistently exceeds expectations.
A keen attention to detail is necessary when inspecting work, equipment, and materials. You will have knowledge of pipework installation, tank and vessel installation, steelwork erection, HVAC installation, and the assembly of turbines, generators, pumps, valves, and heat exchangers. Additional expertise in alignment checks, torque control, joint integrity inspections, and Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) processes is highly desirable. Familiarity with QA/QC procedures, including punch list inspections, NCRs, and ITPs, will be advantageous. Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and PowerPoint is also required, as well as knowledge of key industry specifications such as BTS, BST, ISO9001, and GQAS.
