Environment Artist

Cloud Chamber is looking for a talented artist with the ability to create rich, detailed environments. You will construct set pieces and assets, create and compose modular kits to build believable gameplay spaces in the world of BioShock. In this role, you will continue to raise the bar for stunning visuals, and help develop a fantastical world. Reporting to the Lead Environment Artist, and working alongside your team as well as across other disciplines, you will help realize and push forward the Creative Vision for the project.
Job Details:
- Assist in the creation of believable, functional and visually strong environments.
- Execute your work in a methodical and iterative way: gathering references, concept art, iterating on layout composition using blocking, creating architectural kits and prop placeholders to populate your environments.
- Contribute to the artistic vision of your space, ensure that dependencies are properly communicated through Jira, and your work is technically compliant according to best practices established by the Tech Art and Core Tech teams.
- Contribute to the creation and composition of modular kits and collection sets to form dramatic, believable spaces.
- Work closely with the level design, modeling, narrative, concept, combat, and cinematics teams.
- Communicate effectively with team members, production and management to ensure that project goals and deadlines are met.
- Receive, give, and apply feedback effectively while maintaining a constructive attitude.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- Previous experience on one 3D AAA title (FPS or third person).
- Proficient in the creation of high-quality stylized or sci-fi environment assets.
- Experience working within cross-discipline strike teams on collaborative assignments.
- Experience creating and maintaining asset libraries, organized by theme and function.
- Experience working with Unreal 5 and modular kit construction is beneficial.
- Experience with materials and shaders, knowing what is needed and where to use them for difficult visual targets is a plus.
- You have a love for research, reference, and documenting your findings to share with the team.
- An interest in relevant adjacent disciplines such as architecture, urban design, interior design, photography, film, lighting, and drawing is beneficial.
- Understanding of form, shape, structure, and silhouette as it pertains to world building.
- Familiarity of architectural structure, spatial design, industrial design as it relates to building believable game environments.
