Stripe’s second line of defense team helps to improve Stripe’s compliance and risk posture to enable healthy and sustainable business growth.  The team plays an important role in working with our business to set the standards on compliance and enterprise risk, provide advice and guidance across a range of matters, objectively report on our status, engage with regulators and help ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of our compliance and risk controls.  We are a deeply caring group of folks, slightly obsessed with our tradecraft, dedicated to protecting our users and the financial ecosystem from misuse and crime, and committed to our work, our lives, and our hobbies with equal passion.

What you’ll do

We are looking for an experienced enterprise risk and compliance professional to be the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer for US merchant acquiring at Stripe. In this role, you will lead and be primarily responsible for managing merchant acquiring-related risk management and compliance programs. You will provide strategic direction and oversight to ensure relevant risks are identified, assessed, mitigated, and monitored effectively, while fostering a strong culture of compliance throughout the organization. You will be responsible for maintaining a comprehensive ERM program that aligns with risk appetite and regulatory requirements. You will promote a culture of compliance by managing the regulatory compliance program effectively in line with regulatory and financial partner requirements and expectations. The selected candidate and their team will run programs for compliance, coordinating across key stakeholders and ensuring applicable legal and regulatory requirements are satisfied.

You will provide oversight to the AML/BSA compliance program for US merchant acquiring, including written policies and internal controls and update the program to reflect changes in regulations and best practices. You will conduct periodic assessments of Stripe’s ERM and Compliance programs to ensure effectiveness and compliance with applicable requirements. You will work closely with the Global Regulatory Compliance and Enterprise Risk and the Financial Crimes and Supportability teams, serving a critical role in ensuring Stripe’s continued safe growth and success.

Stripe is both a technology company and a financial services company, and you will need to be comfortable straddling both of those worlds every day. The right person for the role will be enthusiastic both about the mission of enterprise risk and compliance and in the application of new and innovative technology approaches to protect Stripe, its users, the financial system, and the community at large. The role holder will also enjoy seeking creative solutions and moving quickly, often in the face of ambiguity.

A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.

Pay and benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $183,300 - $274,900. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.

We look forward to hearing from you
